12 January 2019 Steering in the right direction, wheel it work?

That's a pun😀, this post is basically about re-making the steering wheel. When George and I were working on the truck, basically just tinkering around, we looked at the steering wheel and thought this thing is a mess. We opened up the LMC catalog to look at a factory steering wheel, it ran about $359.00 dollars, (par for the course)and then to add the horn center piece was another $149.00. I'm like wow, George said why not use the original wheel? I said look at it, you think we can? He said sure, it will take some work but you will have the original wheel. After all that was my goal to keep what I could original, it's not a restoration, but a re-mod. Which is a restoration with modifications, and there are modifications 😉. Anyway we proceeded to restore the steering wheel.
All the cracks you see were small cracks until we opened them up. The plan is to fill the cracks with plastic resin.

The resin looks as bad as the cracks

Until it is sanded

And sanded

And filled more, and sanded

Then it cleans up a little

A little more

Looking pretty good

Primer paint it, it looks great

Paint it black, it looks new again
Fantastic
So we saved the steering wheel 💪

If you look close you can see the horn button, completing the wheel.
More coming soon!
