24 January 2017 50% done, the garage not the truck

I have to say it takes awhile to get the garage up, I mean I need at least 3 people, 4 is better. It's just tedious work. Anyway we have been working on it here and there and trying to get some work on the truck. A friend from work (UPRR) loaned me a boom truck, really made a world of difference. We are still only a little more than half done with just getting the main building up. We still have to close in the front and back. It is going to be roomy, with a loft about 7 ft off the floor leaving about 6 to 7 ft of loft and about 12 ft long by 12 ft wide. So here are some pictures of the last work day.

12 January 2017 Building the garage

In my last post I mentioned taking pictures of the new garage as we built it, Well we finally started. We worked on it all day, stopping for late lunch of course. We tried to assemble pieces on the ground then lifting it up. That was tough, it was hard to keep balanced. Line up all the holes for the bolts, move scaffolding, whew what a pain. So we decided to take Farmer's idea and put up the sides then add the top, that seemed easier. It still took all day to just get about 1/4 done, but I think now we have a plan and it will go faster next time we work on it. My big problem is I'm retired and have plenty of time, everyone else works for the railroad and it's difficult to schedule around their time. There is no way I can do it alone as the pictures will verify. So I do what I can and hope we can get two or three people to help. Today It was Jeremy, Farmer, Jeff, Buz and Jason and me. We needed us all to get this thing started. Buz definitely has the building experience, however he did say if we worked for him we would be fired already. We had a good time and it was nice having Buz and Jason there. We had Bratwurst, potato salad, pork and beans, chips and dip with brownies for dessert. I didn't think to get the camera until late and Buz and Jason had left, so no pictures of them, but they were there. Next time I promise. Here are the pictures,

This is how we will put up the panels now.

As Jeremy says lots and lots of bolts and nuts, there is at least 60 in each panel

 From the floor to the apex is 15 feet. The board in front is steadying the panels, it is a 2x6x20

As eventide falls, we stacked the scaffolding up against the side panels for support, and the 2 2x6x20 boards on the ends.
